  • Ubuntu 8.10 “Intrepid Ibex” CD-ROM installation
  • Ubuntu 9.04 “Jaunty Jackalope” - network install (recommended)
  • Ubuntu 9.10 “Karmic Koala” - network install (recommended)
  • Ubuntu 10.04 “Lucid Lynx” - network install (recommended)
  • Ubuntu 10.10 “Maverick Meerkat” - network install (recommended) Our Groups selection.
  • Debian 4.0 “Etch” - CD-ROM or network install
  • Debian 5.0 “Lenny” - CD-ROM or network install
  • beta of Debian 6.0 “Squeeze” - network install
  • snapshot of Debian unstable “sid” - network install (not recommended)
  • OpenBSD 4.4

Procedure

  • 1. First step was to acquire a system that booted and had a working hard-drive.
  • 2. Next step taken was to enter Bios and configure the system to PXE boot, allowing it to go to the Lab-46 server and find the various Linux based distribution.
  • 3. Once the computer actually booted we went in and picked the OS version we wanted to install, in our case Ubuntu 10.10 “Maverick Meerkat”
  • 4. The usual initial steps for a install was followed by this, with the exception of when opted for the file path for installation we had to redirect it to the file server in the class so that it was not out searching the internet via 18 day installation o.O
