Project: Logic with Redstone

A project for HPCII by BrettK during the 2013.

This project was begun on 3/22/13 and is anticipated to take X AMOUNT OF TIME. (Upon completion you can correct this with the actual length).

Objectives

State the purpose of this project. What is the point of this project? What do we hope to accomplish by undertaking it?

Understanding logic can be quite difficult, and with this project I want to make the learning curve a little less steep.

Prerequisites

In order to successfully accomplish/perform this project, the listed resources/experiences need to be consulted/achieved:

  • A Minecraft Account(possibly)
  • or
  • MinecraftSP which is only single player version but it works
  • you can get that here MinecraftSP
  • This is a java based game so you will need that too. Java.com
  • Experiences:
  • Play the game for a few and get used to the controls and how the game feels

Background

State the idea or purpose of the project. What are you attempting to pursue? Upon approval, you'll want to fill this section out with more detailed background information. DO NOT JUST PROVIDE A LINK. You'll want to give a general overview of what is going to be accomplished (for example, if your project is about installing a web server, do a little write-up on web servers. What is it, why do we need one, how does it work, etc.)

Minecraft is a game that allows you to create the world of your dreams(well, at least an 8-bit version of it). When the creator of this game included Redstone he created something he might not have planned. Redstone can allow you to create beautiful traps and supersize doors, but that isn't what where after. Redstone's ability to turn on and off in real time allows us to use our creations more than one time. This feature is what im after(On/Off). Now I'm no expert on logic gates so I'm going to use the existing tutorials on Play-Hookey.com as a stepping-stone and impliment them into Minecraft. This way we can see how our logic change when we change the input.

  • A greater understanding to how logic gates work: This tutorial should by no means be short, so working with it for this long should increase my understanding

Procedure

The actual steps taken to accomplish the project. Include images, code snippets, command-line excerpts; whatever is useful for intuitively communicating important information for accomplishing the project.

  • 1. The first step is to get the required material(listed above) and to open into a creative, basic grassland super-flat world, this world type is perfect because you don't have to worry about hills or water or anything else in your way.
  • 2. All you will need for this tutorial is: a lever, Redstone(obviously), Redstone torch and stone
  • The Not gate is the easiest to set up and see how it works. By Activating the lever you turn the redstone off. How this works is by powering the stone block, the redstone torch turns off therefore turning the redstone off

  • The Or gate is the next one to set up. By activating either lever you power the block and turn the redstone on

  And if you turn both levers on you will be able to power the redstone
