Ubuntu Desktop Install

  • Obtain tower and Ubuntu installation disk
  • Obtain mouse, keyboard, monitor, tower, network cable, and two power cables
  • Plug in the above to the tower and power it up.
  • Insert disk
  • Press F12 to enter the Boot Menu
  • Select to boot from CD-ROM device
  • Select install option
  • Go through settings: location, language, keyboard language
  • When the partitioner loads select “Guided - use entire disk”
  • Enter enter your name, user name, password, and computer name
  • Click the install button
  • Wait for the disk to finish installing
  • Eject disk and restart the computer
  • Go to System>Preferences>Screen Resolution and select 1280×1024
  • Select Applications>Add/Remove Programs and install compiz desktop effects
  • Open Firefox to check connectivity to the internet or open a terminal and ping a website
  • Right click on the desktop>Visual Effects>Extra
  • Open the terminal and ssh to lab46: ssh bh011695@lab46
