Eric Scouten's spring2013 Opus

Introduction

I'm Eric Scouten, born and raised in Hornell, NY. I've been familiar with computers since I was a toddler due to my fathers huge interest in them; I've been working with computers on a technical level since I was 14 and built my first tower when I was 15, still using it today. My pursuits are to simply do very well in the subjects I've been taught and continue to expand my knowledge of them indefinitely. My interest in computers has brought me to want to work as a technical director for businesses, as well as a growing interest in the High-Performance Computing sector. As a side interest, I hope to also open up a radio station(broadcasting and internet) of my own for the local areas and internet.

My hobbies include video gaming, guitar, and longboarding. My favorite movie of all time is The Princess Bride. My musical interests are hard rock to melodic death metal; to instrumentals and electonica.

And I'm a proud geek.

MONTH Day, YEAR

This is a sample format for a dated entry. Please substitute the actual date for “Month Day, Year”, and duplicate the level 4 heading to make additional entries.

As an aid, feel free to use the following questions to help you generate content for your entries:

  • What action or concept of significance, as related to the course, did you experience on this date?
  • Why was this significant?
  • What concepts are you dealing with that may not make perfect sense?
  • What challenges are you facing with respect to the course?

February 6th Day, 2013

Commenced serious work on the Automated Drawing project. End result was that the script can successfully select a Paint Brush and create a square. I learned that in order to use commands with xte, you must use full quotations ( ' ' ). Also learned to use pkill at the beginning of the script to prevent having multiple instances of xpaint.

February 11th Day, 2013

Created a second version of the Auto Draw script. This one has been optimized to be capable of selecting the xpaint window regardless of how it launches and will flawlessly draw a square for you every single time.

March 8th Day, 2013

Finished the Automated Drawing script, and it is posted in my portfolio. Took outrageously longer than I expected. The script will draw for you a po-tart with a diamon ring attached. On this same day, I began the Creating a Virtual Machine project and so far have created the VM.
