Brett Keough was born in Elmira, Ny in 1981 and lived his entire life.
In 1999 he graduated from Elmira Free Academy which is now the current location of the Ernie Davis
Middle School.
After Graduating high school Brett Keough enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was sent to Ft.
Jackson/Columbus, South Carolina 2nd Brigade 39th Infantry Battalion TRADOC for basic combat training
during. When he had completed Basic Training, Brett was then stationed in Ft. Rucker, Alabama for
AIT (Advanced Individual Training) where he was certified in Flight Operations and Avionics and his crew member wings from
the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, previously the Army Aviation Center and School in the
1st Aviation Brigade 13th Regiment.
Following his training in South Carolina and Alabama Brett was issued orders to his permanent
duty station in the 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum Ny
while stationed at the 10th Mountain he actively trained with numerous Infantry,
Aviation, and Calvary units as well as Joint Operations with SOG and LRSD reconnaissance.
In addition to his time training was also a range master 2/10th
Aviation Battalion which made him responsible scheduling Ranges for marksman training explosive
ordnance training. Brett had earned expert marksmanship badges for Pistol, M203 Grenade Launcher,
Fragmentation Grenade, M249 SAW and the M16A4. Brett was still enlisted serving at Ft. Drum, Ny
during September 11, 2001 at the time was on an M16 Range to qualify 10 minutes prior to the
announcement made about the World Trade Center can be quoted as stating to his roommate and brother
from another mother “Dude we are never going to get to use 'these'(referring to their rifles)”. A
statement that was proven to be false a short time later.
After 4 years of active duty Brett received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army. The
following year was spent working in a Roof Truss Manufacturing Company in Watertown, Ny. Failing to
find purpose and coming to the realization that this was not a career but more of a dead end job,
he resigned from his position as laborer and set out to explore Europe.
In February of 2005 he moved to Europe and remained a resident of Ansbach Bavaria, Germany
working for AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service) where he was in charge of rationing the bases
Alcohol and Tobacco stocks. While living in Germany he did not attend Oktoberfest because he
viewed the event as a tourist destination but instead attended several smaller town festivals that
were believed to be more full of culture. During his time in Germany he also attended a Snoop Dog
Concert in Munich, and toured several early cities and castles of the country, and a 12th century
torture chamber that still had human remains in the dungeon pits. As it was a goal of his and
still is to experience all that life has to offer. Brett has also been to Amsterdam, Holland during
his stay as a gift to himself for his birthday, against his colleagues advice of traveling to the
south of France he had dressed in shorts and a tee shirt and froze in July because of storm that
was coming from the North Sea that had hit Amesterdam.
Upon returning to the United States, Brett Keough was offered a position at a Rehabilitation
Center in Albany, Ny the primary goal was to rehabilitate mentally ill people to cope with the
stresses of everyday life and their illness as they tend to go hand in hand. While living in
Albany he attended a Dave Mathews Concert for two days at Saratoga Springs Performing Art Center.
He remained in Albany Until the Spring of 2009.
Brett returned to his hometown where he had worked for a couple of different roofing contractors
both Union and non-Union companies where the work was seasonal. He is was also apart of putting the
roof of the Science building at Corning Community College. While on a seasonal lay-off, Brett had
received a call from Sikorsky Aircraft in Horseheads, Ny and was offered a position as a
helicopter inspector. After accepting the position he was quickly put in charge of inspecting
entire projects for numerous countries. Brett remained at Sikorsky until the facility closed.
Shortly after CAF USA located in Elmira Heights, Ny offered him a position in receiving inspection.
After working for 3 Years at CAF a company wide Lay-off Brett found himself with frustrations of
working in manufacturing for 3 years and getting layed-off due to logistics.
In 2016 Brett Keough enrolled at SUNY Corning Community College in the Web Technologies Program and is due to Graduate at the end of the Fall 2017 semester.
