It was soon discovered that they DID work, but you had to press keys down for a long time. Then, once logged in, performance would be restored. I thought it might have been due to a failing USB dock. But- after doing a google search, it appears the culprit is "Slow Keys", a GDM Accessibility feature, somehow turning itself on (this apparently happens enough for a simple google search of "gdm keyboard not working" yielded useful results). Manually, "Slow Keys" can be toggled by holding down right shift for 10 seconds. Who knows, someone might have accidentally done this. One suggested solution was to run: **xkbset -a**, but this did not fix the problem. What DID fix it was me holding down **right shift** for 10 seconds. A dialog came up confirming "Slow Keys" was in fact turned on, and I had the option to turn it off. This cleared up the problem on all seats at pod01. Good to know. ======March 18th, 2013====== =====updates===== Did some **aptitude update && aptitude upgrade** action on the following machines: * lab46 * irc * www * auth1 * auth2 * proxy * sokraits * halfadder ====slapd manual fix on auth2==== Doing updates broke LDAP consumer abilities on auth2... had to go and manually patch and compile packages from source to get it back up and running again. ======March 12th, 2013====== =====VM booting problem===== * http://serverfault.com/questions/315216/xen-4-0-squeeze-fails-to-start-guests-with-launch-vm-setvcpucontext-failed I hope not, but it did work for www (the only VM exhibiting problems).
